Dear Santa: The wish lists of four little boys
It seems every blogger and their spouse has a “holiday gift guide” these days to help you with your purchases. But look closely, they probably have an affiliate link. Basically, what that means is the blogger will get a kickback from the company for advertising on their site. Don’t get me wrong, good for them for getting reimbursed, but their promotional suggestions probably aren’t what I’m looking for this Christmas. What I want to know is: what are the average American families buying this year? Not the “keeping-up-with-the-Joneses” families, not the parents who are buying their 8 year old and new cell phone or iPod Touch, but the every day mom and dad who are more concerned with the Christmas spirit instead of overloading their kids toy bins.
What is it that my five year old really needs and what can I get for my three year old, to help foster creativity? Well, if being the mom of four boys under the age of 10 doesn’t give me enough authority on the matter, then I don’t know what does! We asked our little men to write down their top picks for the following categories:
- Something to read.
- Something to wear.
- Something they need.
- Something they want.
- A special request for Santa (that they know is probably out of Mom and Dad’s price range/budget!)
Here is what is currently on my kids wish lists this year; hopefully it will help to inspire you during your holiday shopping as well!
9 Year Old
- Spy School book series
- Robe & slippers
- “My own room!”
- Target or Best Buy gift cards
- Nintendo Switch game system
- **other ideas from parents: pajama bottoms, dollar bill origami book, coding robotics kit, rope knots, Seattle Seahawks gear, backyard snowboard
7 Year Old
- Plants v. Zombies books
- snow boots
- “a dog!”
- Power Rangers sword
- A tablet
- **parents ideas: how to draw comics kit, art kit, cooking lessons, sled, Lego kits, math activity books, jump rope
5 Year Old
- Nexo Knights books
- Slippers
- New sneakers
- Ninja costume
- Super Mario Bros. game (WiiU)
- **parents: ukulele, spelling & word matching games, pajamas, writing activity books, memory game
3 Year Old
This is tough because he wants both everything (he sees) and nothing (in particular). He doesn’t really need anything since he has more hand-me-downs than he can use. These are possibilities:
- dress up costumes
- nesting dolls
- bath colors/bubbles/fizz tablets
- books
- “pull-back” cars
- kid-friendly snow globes
