Fall-Off-The-Bone Crockpot Chicken Wings
Football season has officially begun! In my opinion, there's no better way to watch the game than with your favorite seasonal beer while sitting around plates piled high with nachos, soft pretzels, various dips and chicken wings! (In fact, some of my girlfriends will profess it's the only way to watch football!) The guys in my household are huge Seattle Seahawks fans. They were so excited for the opening game on Sunday and asked me to make a few favorite dishes... including our beloved homemade chicken wings. How can I say no to all those hopeful faces? I can't. I just can't.
These wings are so incredible, they're slow cooked all afternoon for fall-off-the-bone tenderness in a mouthwatering hot sauce and butter combination. It's probably best we don't have friends over to witness either a) the possible loss of our favorite team b) any swearing that ensues because of the aforementioned situation or c) the messiness that inevitably results from eating saucy finger foods, toddler-style. In reality, they are so good it's easy to forget your surroundings once you start eating them. I especially love that they aren't deep-fried (way healthier, right?) They're also never under cooked or dried out; just the most delicious chicken wings outside of your favorite sports bar! Plus they could not be easier to make. Here's how:
Ingredients:
- 3 pounds uncooked chicken wings
- 1 1/4 cup hot wing sauce, divided
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup beer
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
Directions:
Place all the wings in a slow cooker. Combine 1 cup of the hot sauce, broth and beer in a medium bowl. Whisk together and pour over the wings. Cover and cook for 5 hours on low heat or 2- 2 1/2 hours on high heat.
Remove the wings from the cooking liquid and place in a single layer on a cookie sheet. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter and remaining 1/4 cup hot sauce. Brush half the sauce on one side of the wings. Place under the broiler for five minutes. Turn the wings over and brush with the remaining sauce. Broil an additional five minutes. Serve with your favorite blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.
